For those who have their geek on (and you know who you are), the map below displays the global locations of servers connecting to FatherVenditti.com© from January 1 through April 30, 2015, courtesy of Urchin Deep Analytics®. A total of 510 separate network servers were identified, connecting 6,896 individual visitors so far for the year. The locations of individual visitors are not displayed, though it is generally presumed to be within a couple of hundred miles from the location of the server, but can be considerably more in less industrialized regions. If, however, the server is being identified through a search engine or "spider" service, all bets are off, and the visitor could be thousands of miles away. That's why you see a really big dot in northern California: that's where Google's primary server is located ... unless there's a really big Father Michael fan club in Mountain View that I don't know about, but I doubt it.
Like last month, the number of page views has almost quadrupled compared to this time last year; in other words, those visiting are viewing multiple pages and staying on the site longer.
Since Urchin restricts each map to a display of 500 servers, maps will be added to the display every time the server count bumps above 500; this month Urchin displayed two maps, but the second one displayed only ten additional servers, so I didn't bother posting it. By the end of last year, three maps were displayed here to show the total servers for the year. With only four months into the year, we're already up to 510, so I'm cautiously predicting four maps by December.
Why not just a "hit counter"? Because they are ridiculously inaccurate, and don't count visits from secure servers, many networked servers, and routinely get confused by use of the "Back" button, counting phantom visits and inflating the count artificially, in spite of the counter's settings which claim otherwise. "Ooohhhh, lookie at me! Four million people visited my site!" Don't believe it. That's why web masters love hit counters. At least I'm honest. While Urchin, which tracks visitors through their network servers and ISPs rather than hits recorded by the site itself, may often short-change the site on how many individual visitors are connecting through each server, the server count is very reliable. Besides, there's nothing for sale here, and I'm not getting anything because thousands of people clicked on an entry in a search engine and ended up visiting my page for .0003 seconds to discover it wasn't what they were looking for.

Total visitors to this site as of April 30th, 2015: 92,696 connecting through 2,821 identified servers worldwide.
